Mary O. Kiisel (Drew)

Mrs. Henry Kiisel died at six o’clock last evening at the home of her son-in-law, W. M. Wyrick, on North Farmer Street.

Mrs. Kiisel’s maiden name was Mary Olive Drew. She was born near Bangor, Maine, March 30, 1836, and came west to Ohio with her parents, being married there to Albert Hall, Jan. 20, 1856, immediately after which they came to Iowa. To Mr. and Mrs. Hall was born one son, Earnest Hall of Des Moines. Mr. Hall died in 1859 and March 28, 1861, Mrs. Hall married Henry J. Kiisel, in this city, the ceremony being performed by Rev. Steel. To this union were born five children of whom but three are living. They are Mrs. Lucinda Wyrick of this city, Fred Kiisel of South Bend, Ind., who arrived this morning, and Oliver Kiisel of Richmond, Ind., who will be here some time today.

For a number of years Mrs. Kiisel had been an invalid, having suffered two severe strokes of paralysis. For the past year of two she had been in very feeble health but had been cared for with the greatest tenderness by her daughter. Deceased was a Christian woman. She was formerly connected with the Lutheran Church.

The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at the Wyrick home and will be in charge of the Rebekahs, of which order Mrs. Kiisel had long been a member. ~ The Newton News, Friday, August 7, 1903
