As recorded Saturday, the death of Mr. Herron occurred that afternoon at one o’clock after a long and tedious illness.

Deceased was born in Georgetown, Ohio, Dec 31, 1823, and came to this country in 1868. He was first married in March 1854 to Miss Agnes Johnston at Chillicothe, Ohio, and to them two children were born. One died in infancy, the other, Mrs. Willis Laird, who had been living in Atlantic, now being here. Mrs. Herron died in 1859.

When the rebellion broke out Mr. Herron enlisted in the 77th Illinois and served faithfully until disabled by sickness so that he had to be discharged. In 1868, Feb. 20th, he was again married, this time to Miss Belle J. Blair of Newton. To them five children were born, one dying in infancy. Miss Jessie, Elmer and Miss Nellie are at home, and Andrew Burton is located in Des Moines.

Mr. Herron united with the United Presbyterian Church when twelve years of age and had been a faithful member ever since. He was one of the charter members of the church here. He was a good citizen, a loyal friend and accommodating neighbor and will be missed by a large circle of friends.

The funeral was held this afternoon in the United Presbyterian Church at three o’clock, services being conducted by Rev. John Ferguson.
