Evelyn Ruth Tepe (1920 - 2013)

Evelyn Ruth Tepe, 92, died Saturday, March 16, 2013, in Brighton. She was born April 16, 1920, to Charlotte and Eduard Kramer at their home north of Brighton. She met her future husband, Edwin Wilhelm Tepe, when he was a farm hand on her parent's farm. One of his jobs was to drive Evelyn and her siblings and cousins in a horse-drawn spring wagon to school every morning. She attended Zion Lutheran School where she was valedictorian. She graduated from Brighton High School.

Evelyn and Edwin were married Nov. 27, 1938, in Brighton and then moved to their farm near Lone Wolf, Okla. In 1946, they moved with their first two children to their farm on Bromley Lane near Brighton where three more children came along.

They returned to Oklahoma briefly after Edwin retired, but the mountains and her family drew them back to Brighton, where she spent the rest of her life.

Evelyn was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran where her grandparents were founding members. She loved singing in the choir.

She was talented and prolific in many arts including quilting, crochet, tatting, embroidery, macramé and wheat weaving. She taught herself many of these arts and passed on her knowledge to family, friends, school children and strangers; always willing to teach anyone who showed interest. She loved to play cards and games and taught all of her children to do the same. In her last days, she was still playing her favorite game Rummikub and adding the score in her head.

Evelyn is survived by her children, Lester (Elizabeth) Tepe, of Newton, Iowa, Nelda (John) Gamble, of Brighton, Linda Tepe, of Seattle, Wash., Miriam (William) Klingsporn, of Lander, Wyo., and Rebecca (Mark) Niemeyer, of Aurora. Also surviving are grandchildren Gregory Tepe, Elisabeth Hall, Sara Hoppes, Cara McCulley, Carl Hoppes, Jennifer Espinoza, Gretchen Gamble, Sarah K. Poznanovic, E. Katie Klingsporn, Anna M.G. Niemeyer and 19 great-grandchildren.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Charlotte and Eduard, spouse, Edwin, and younger siblings Victor and Marvin Kramer and Thelma Schissler.

Evelyn loved and generously gave her self, time and treasures to her family and everyone she knew. We will all miss her so dearly.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 22, at Tabor-Rice Funeral Home, 75 S 13th Ave., Brighton. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 23, at Zion Lutheran Church, Brighton, with internment at Elmwood Cemetery.

Family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, 1400 Skeel St., Brighton, 80601, and/or Family Hospice, 1790 30th St., #308, Boulder, 80301.

Thank you to the many friends, family and caregivers who have been with Evelyn and her family over the past year and especially these last few weeks. Your love and support has helped carry us.
