Maurice, the 13-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Valentine, who was reported very sick last week with appendicitis, was operated on by Dr. Frank Smith of Monroe and Dr. McCartney of Des Moines Wednesday, died Wednesday night. He was a bright and promising boy, a scholar of room 4 of our public school. The funeral took place from the parent’s home one half mile east of Monroe on Thursday afternoon. The casket was opened at the grave so that his teacher, Miss Nella Tice and his classmates could see him. Beautiful flowers were placed on the grave from dear friends.
