Mary Margaret Pope, age 93, of Newton and formerly of Millersburg, died on Monday, March 18, 2013, at Nelson Manor in Newton. A funeral mass will be held at 10: 00 AM on Saturday, March 23, 2013, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in North English with Rev. Joseph Roost presiding. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM (with a vigil service at 4:00 and a rosary at 7:30 PM) on Friday, March 22, 2013, at Powell Funeral Home in North English. Mary Margaret Pope was born on October 17, 1919 in Iowa County, Iowa, a daughter of James W. and Kathryn “Kitty” Carney Healey. She graduated from St. John’s Catholic School in Victor. Margaret married Lloyd John “Joe” Pope on March 27, 1940, in Victor. She was a life-long resident of Iowa County. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in North English. Margaret worked a number of years at the Landmark Restaurant, at nursing homes and in home health care. Margaret was a kind and loving mother. She loved to dance. She became a resident of Nelson Manor in September 2008. She is survived by eight children: Mary Kay (Bob) Beinhart of Harper; Leroy (Vicki) Pope of Millersburg; John Robert (Connie) Pope of Cedar Rapids; William “Bill” Pope of Millersburg; Janet (Dennis) Kuennen of St. Lucas; Tom (Barb) Pope of Millersburg; Terry (Debra) Pope of Millersburg; Sheila (Buddy) Bills of Kellogg; twenty seven grandchildren: John (Dawn)Pope, James (Cathy) Pope, Julie (Larry) Steen, David and Cary Pope, Billie Joe (Tom) Hotchkiss, Bob (Sheryl) Beinhart, Jr, Bradly (Janet) Beinhart, Bryan (Amy) Beinhart, Bev (Rick) Conrad, Barb (Scott) Shifflett, Gregg (April) Pope, Garry (Kim) Pope, Scott (Angie) Pope, Penny (Greg) Mara, Heather (Tom) Barbee, Teresa Ludlow, Tracy Ribbing, Kyle (Christine) Kuennen, Denene Kuennen, Kassandra (Omoro, Sr.) Crusoe, Mike (Tracy) Pope, Melissa (Josh) Schaedler, Nathan and Brandon Bills. Forty-one great grandchildren: Corie Pope; Justin Pope; Jordon (Josh) Van Kooten, Jessika and Jennifer Steen; Mason Pope; Lindsey (Kendall) Gatton, Kelly, Bailey, Kylie Beinhart; Brock, Murphy & Brody Beinhart; Paige and Curtis Conrad; Gabriel and Sierra Pope; Carson and Zane Pope; John David and Emily Pope; Keegan Pope, Courtney Jagielski , Marcy Mara, Kyler, Amery and Curran Barbee; Brenden, Ashton and Tyler Ludlow, Cole and Gavin Ribbing; Alicia, Kamden and Reid Kuennen; Acceia and Omoro, Jr Crusoe; Brett and Abby Pope; Brock and Aaron Schaedler; and three great-great grandchildren: Kenley Gatton, Graceyn Van Kooten and Carson Pope; daughters-in-law: Paula Pope of Hutchinson, MN and Rose Pope of Marengo; a sister, Doris Oldaker of Monticello; and sisters-in-law Lucille Healey and Margaret Pope both of Victor. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, husband in June 1970, a son Lloyd Paul Pope, grandsons Stephen and Joseph Pope, and brothers John Healey, Melvin Healey and Harry Healey.
