DeWayne Douglas Stoner, 60, of Newton passed away Friday, March 15, 2013, at his home in Newton, under the care of Skiff Hospice.

A gathering time for family and friends will be from 10 to 11 a.m., Friday, March 22, at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton. Memorials are being designated in DeWayne’s name, and may be left at the funeral home.

DeWayne, the son of Darwin Jennings Stoner and Dorothy Louise (Bowie) Stoner, was born April 12, 1952, in Newton. He attended Newton Senior High School and was a high school graduate. DeWayne served his country with the U.S. Marine Corps from 1969 to 1972 during the Vietnam War.

On July 22, 1989, DeWayne was united in marriage with Sherry Lynn Lewis in Chariton. A lifetime resident of the Newton area, he was employed by the United States Postal Service in Newton and Knoxville, as a mail carrier and clerk. DeWayne devoted his life to his family and friends, and enjoyed camping and working on their family tree. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Those left to honor DeWayne’s memory include his wife, Sherry; his seven children, Thomas (Tabatha) Stoner, Christopher Stoner, Dustin Stoner, Nikki Stoner, Anthony (Tony) Lewis, Heather Sliger and Jonathan (Jay) Durant; his 30 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; his parents, Darwin and Dorothy Stoner; his sister and brothers, Nancy (Tom) Sutphin, David Stoner, Garry (Robin) Stoner and Larry (Shawn) Stoner; and his many friends.

DeWayne was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Payton True Brauch; his sister, Bonnie Stoner Northcutt; and his paternal and maternal grandparents.
