Susan Kay Comly, 67, died at her Urbandale home on Friday, March 8, 2013. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Monday, March 11, 2013 at the Merle Hay Funeral Home, 4400 Merle Hay Road, Des Moines, Iowa. A celebration of Susan's life will be held immediately following the visitation in the chapel. Family committal services will be held at the Canby Cemetery in Adair County.

Susan was born on October 31, 1945, in Iowa Falls, Iowa, to Henry and Arloene (Newton) Clifton. She graduated from Rockford High School in 1963 and moved to Des Moines where she lived until her death. On October 26, 1974, she was married to Jesse Comly Jr. in Mason City, Iowa.

Susan worked at the Iowa State Auditor's Office for over nine years and was then employed as a mail processing clerk for the U.S. Postal Service in Des Moines for twenty-five years until her retirement last August.

Survivors include stepsons, Jesse Comly, III of Perry, Iowa and Randall Comly of Murray, Iowa; brothers, Marlyn (Kareen) of Missouri Valley, Iowa and Richard (Donita) of North Mankato, Minnesota; sister-in-law, Marlene Clifton Bohl of Kansas City, Kansas; step grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Susan was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brother, Marvin.

Memorials are requested to the American Cancer Society or other charity of donor's choice.
