Dow Roersma, the young man who was brought to this city the last of the week from Monroe and who was suffering from appendicitis, died about six o’clock yesterday morning.

He was operated upon Saturday afternoon by Dr. Smead of this city and Dr. Schooler, of Des Moines, but was not able to withstand the ordeal. Deceased was a splendid young man only 22 years of age. He was just on the threshold of life and had been robust, vigorous and strong. No one would have thought a day or two earlier that it would be possible for him to be called away so suddenly. The blow falls very heavily upon his parents and brothers and sisters.

The funeral was held in Monroe at ten o’clock today, the party going over on the early train this morning. Messers. John P. Newell, J. T. Pound, F. H. Karstans and Harry Staynor accompanied the family on their sad mission.

It is with deep sorrow that the people of our little city learned of the death of Dow Roersma at Newton Sunday morning. Each one asked the question, “Can it be possible, so young, so strong, so full of life, so happy and cheerful?” Everyone was proud of Dow. He was a hustler in business and from a little lad selling papers on the street to a young man, was never afraid of honest toil. When taken sick he was a trusted clerk in the Continental Clothing store here and none will miss him more than Mr. Charles Woodard, of the firm. The family have the deepest sympathy of our people. The funeral occurred in the U. P Church at 10 o’clock Monday morning, Dow was 20 years of age.
