John Walsh
John Walsh died at his home on North Olive Street yesterday morning at 6:15 after an illness of ten days with paralysis.

Mr. Walsh was born in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, June 8, 1825. He moved with is family to Athens, Ohio, when a boy and there grew to manhood. September 23, 1852, he was married to Elizabeth Johnston. They came to this city in 1868 and this has been the family home ever since.

There were seven children born to Mr. and Mrs. Walsh, as follows: Mrs. Mary Drake of Corning, Ohio; Mrs. Jennie Dean of New Sharon, Iowa; Mrs. Nettie Miller, Grinnell; Minnie Agnes at home; John of Omaha; Burdette, who died Jan. 30, 1892 and Freddie, who died at the age of three years in 1879. It is hoped that all of the children will be at home for the funeral.

Mr. Walsh was one of the finest men one would meet anywhere. His was exemplary life and it has been said of him that he never even had an evil thought of anyone, so far as was known. He had for forty-seven years been an Odd Fellow and had been a member of the M. E. Church nearly all of his long life. He was a quiet, unassuming citizen whose aim was to do good and in doing so he was himself essentially good.

He had for a long time been in frail health yet the fact of his death is a distinct shock to the family and the home will seem very desolate, indeed, without Father Walsh.

The funeral will occur tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at the Methodist Church, the I. O. O. F. having charge, in connection with the pastor. ~ The Newton Daily Herald, Monday, February 2, 1903, Page 1, Column 3
