Viola I. Lambert, 97, of Monroe died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013 at Park Centre in Newton.

A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, at the Monroe United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Silent City Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 1 p.m. until service time and following the service at a luncheon at the church.

Viola Inez Lambert
January 17, 1916 - February 10, 2013

Viola Inez Lambert, of Monroe, died at Park Centre, Newton, Iowa on Sunday, February 10, 2013. Funeral services will be Saturday, February 16, 2013 at the Monroe United Methodist Church at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be at the church, one hour prior to the service.

Viola was born in Linn County, Missouri on January 17, 1916, to Charles and Delores Maxwell. She married Benjamin H. Lambert on April 8, 1939 in Linneus, Missouri. He preceded her in death on April 1, 1992. She was a devoted mother and homemaker. She enjoyed sewing, baking, canning, and being able to celebrate the birth of three generations of grandchildren and her 97th birthday, which surpassed that of her great-grandmother, Ruth Parker.

She is survived by her children, Mervin Gene (Jean) Lambert of Davenport, Iowa, Vivian Nadine Brown of Davenport, Iowa, Herman Wayne Lambert of Woodhull, Illinois, and Violet Alalie Lindroth of Johnston, Iowa; two sisters, Nerene Baskett and Lilah Forbes, both of Brookfield, Missouri; 19 grand children; 28 great grandchildren; and 19 great great grandchildren, including all their spouses; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews as well as a very special neighbor, June Donahue and her children.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Monroe United Methodist Church, Monroe Kiwanis Club, or a charity of your choice.
