Susan J. (Hodgson) Pelzer, 63, of Newton died on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

A funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home. A vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials to Progress Industries or Skiff Hospice may be left at the church the morning of the service or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home.

Susan, the daughter of Harry R. and Ilis I. (Smith) Hodgson, was born on Oct. 13, 1949, in Newton. She graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1967 and from AIB with a degree in accounting. Susan was united in marriage with Thomas L. “Tom” Pelzer on Nov. 24, 1973 in St. Louis, Mo. Susan was a homemaker and had also worked in the bookkeeping department at the Parsons Company until they closed. For the last eight years she had worked for Progress Industries in resident’s housing. Susan was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, PEO and TTT. She loved being with and spoiling her grandchildren, playing tennis, and going out with the girls.

Those left to honor Susan’s memory are her children, Jacqueline Pelzer Parks of Omaha, Neb., and Larry (Abigail) Pelzer of Newton; her grandchildren, Madeline Jane Parks, Lydia Suzanne Parks, Kasey Pelzer, Kennedy Pelzer and Brandon Pelzer; her sister, Linda Gildow of Denver, Colo.; her nephew, Todd (Karen) Gildow of Denver, Colo.; and her many friends. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News Website.
