Verne L. Normandin, 91, of Colfax died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, at Careage of Newton.

A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at the Howard Street Christian Church. Burial will follow at McKeever Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, at Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News Website.

Verne L. Normandin, age 91, of Colfax, died Wednesday, February 06, 2013, at Careage of Newton. Verne Lee Normandin was born October 25, 1921 in Lu Verne, Iowa the fourth of five children to Milton (Peck) and Catherine Mae Jones Normandin. His family relocated from Kossuth County to Colfax around 1928/29. He was a 1940 graduate of Colfax High School. On July 25, 1942 he married Cleora June Jordan of Newton in Lancaster, MO. He was a World War II Army veteran serving in the 222nd Search Light Battalion Coast Artillery, Battery B stationed at the airfield on Middleburg Island in New Guinea and later on the island of Mindanao in the Philippines.

Verne repaired power tools for a living spending twenty three of those years working for the Skil Corporation. He loved big band music especially the sound of Glenn Miller. He was a long time member of the Howard Street Christian Church serving as a Sunday School teacher and as an Elder for many years. He is survived by two sons Alan (Diana) of Colfax and Timothy of Grimes, two granddaughters Kendra (Charlie) Sickels and Shawna (Matt) Jesse, and three great grandchildren Hunter and Payton Jesse and Sean Sickels. ~ The Coburn Funeral Home Website, Colfax, Iowa.
