Leo W. Lickey, 85, of Newton died on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Newton. The family will greet friends with a lunch from 12:30 p.m., until the time of service on Saturday, at the church. Memorials in Leo’s name may be left at the church or the Wallace Family Funeral Home.

Leo, the son of Austin and Christina (Coleman) Lickey, was born on April 3, 1927, in Galt, Mo. He graduated from Galt High School before serving his country in the U.S. Marines. After returning from the service Leo took business courses in Maryville, Mo. He then moved to Newton, Iowa and began working at the Maytag Company. Leo was united in marriage with Dorothy Meyer on Sept. 25, 1953, in Newton. While working at the Maytag Company, Leo won a Big Idea Award. He later owned the APCO gas station in Monroe and from 1963-2002 owned and operated Lickey’s Garage doing auto repair. Leo enjoyed feeding squirrels, raccoons, and birds. He also had a love of flying and had his pilot’s license for 10 years.

Those left to honor Leo’s memory are his wife, Dorothy of Newton; son, Roger (Cindy) Lickey of Newton; three grandchildren, Brad (Sarah) Lickey of Kellogg, Kari Lickey of Kansas City, Mo., and Chris Conklin of Newton; and his son-in-law, Jerry Daubert of Florida.
