Michael Shea, of Aurelia, father of Mrs. G. L. Bates, died at Aurelia, Iowa, yesterday afternoon and will be buried at Prairie City, where he used to reside and where his wife is buried. He was well known in Jasper County.

Prairie City (IA) News, 1902Michael Shea was born at Dingall, Carry County, Ireland, March 1, 18ll, where he lived until he went to Vermont in 1844.
He was married to Bridget Keating in 1851. They had eleven children, seven of whom are still living.
He died September 10, 1902 at Aurelia, Iowa.
He moved to Aurelia with his sons some years ago. He came to Prairie City in 1872.
He was buried in Prairie City, beside his wife, who died March 17,1892. Burial in the old cemetery.
His sons, Michael and Patrick, and daughters, Mrs. Bates of Newton and Mrs. Weston of Colfax were present at the funeral, also William Shea and John Murphy.
