C.E. “Bill” Hegwood, 93, of Newton died on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012, at the Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home, 1115 E. 19th St. N. in Newton. A public Masonic service will be held during the funeral service. The family will greet friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 16, at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Newton Union Cemetery in Newton. Military Honors by American Legion Post 111 of Newton and Iowa Honor Guard Detail of the Iowa Army National Guard of Johnston.

Memorials to the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine Hospital Transportation Fund may be left at the funeral home. Memorials may also be mailed to the funeral home, please add, Attn: Hegwood Family on the envelope.

Survivors include his children, Gene (Carolyn “Sis”) Hegwood of Pershing, Rhonda (Dan) Wunderlich of Newton, Gary (Marilyn) Hegwood of Pella, and Richard (Vickie) Hegwood of Naperville, Illinois; twelve grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Sylvia (Redding) Hegwood; wife, Roberta in 1994; son, Gordon; and sister, Ruth Visser. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News.

Visitation: The family will greet friends from 11 a.m. -1 p.m., Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at the funeral home.

Funeral Service: 1 p.m., Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at the funeral home. A public Masonic Service will be held during the funeral service.
Interment: Immediately following the funeral services on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at the Newton Union Cemetery in Newton. Military Honors by American Legion Post 111 & the Iowa Honor Guard Detail of the Iowa Army National Guard.

Bill served his country in the U.S. Army from June of 1944-April of 1946. He served under General George S. Patton at the Battle of the Bulge.

Bill worked for the Maytag Company as a production worker at Plant 1 for many years, when he retired after working for 35+ years; he was a supervisor of the shop at Plant 1.

Bill was an outdoorsman enjoying camping, fishing, hunting, mushroom hunting; he also enjoyed NASCAR and was a Die Hard Chicago Cubs Fan.
