Leona M. Jewell, 88, of Colfax died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, at the Howard Street Christian Church with burial following at the Colfax Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today, Oct. 2, at Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax. Leona M. Jewell, age 88 of Colfax, died Saturday, September 29, 2012, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 3, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. at the Howard Street Christian Church, with burial following at the Colfax Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax. The daughter of Howard Williams Sr. and Ruth Leona (Meckley) Williams, Leona was born on May 6, 1924, in Colfax, Iowa. She graduated from Colfax High School in 1941. On July 19, 1958, she was united in marriage to Don D. Jewell at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. A lifelong resident of Colfax, Leona worked for many years at Northwestern Bell and also for a period at the First State Bank in Colfax. Leona was a member of the Howard Street Christian Church and enjoyed visiting with family, the outdoors and riding horses in her younger years.

Those left to honor her memory include her daughter Jan Renee Jewell of Colfax; sister, Mary Williams Mercer and her husband Donald of Independence, Missouri, a brother, Howard Williams Jr. and his wife Shirley of Colfax and a sister in law, Sandra Shoquist Tygum and her husband Keith of Pomona, California. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband in 2007, a daughter, Jill in 1968 and a sister, Doris Williams Swanson. ~ The Coburn Funeral Home Website, Colfax, Iowa.
