Donald W. Lemonds, 67, of Hardin, Mo., formerly of Davenport, Iowa, died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012, at Ray County Memorial Hospital in Richmond, Mo.

Donald was born on Feb. 7, 1945, in Bremerton, WA to Willis “Bill” and Evelyn (Thompson) Lemonds. He married Barbara Chandler of Newton, Iowa, on Nov. 28, 1964. She survives in Davenport, Iowa.

Additional survivors include one son, Dave Lemonds (Gina Smith) of Hardin, Mo.; one daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Jason Parrett of Bettendorff, Iowa; one sister, M. Arlene Lemonds of Des Moines, Iowa; one sister-in-law, Janet Lemonds of Des Moines, Iowa; four grandchildren, Matthew Dotson, Jaykob Lemonds, Abby Parrett and Ethan Parrett.

In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by a brother, Robert “Bob “Lemonds.

Donald was affectionately known around Hardin by his buddies as the “Hardin Hammer.”

Donald was a fabricator for Tri-City Fabricating in Davenport, Iowa, for 26 years, before retiring in 2007. He was a United States Air Force Veteran. He was of the Christian faith. He had lived in Davenport, Iowa, before moving to Hardin, Mo., about a year ago.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Hardin Parks and Recreation Department.

Military graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 24, 2012, at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, Mo. Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond is in charge of the arrangements. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, September 21, 2012.
