Elizabeth Weseman (Bergman)

Mrs. C. Weseman died at her home north of this city last Thursday, April 25, after two years illness, during which time she was a great sufferer.

Elizabeth Bergman was born at Meinberg, Lippe Detmold, Germany, April 26, 1833, thus lacking but one day of being 68 years old. When 19 years of age she left her old home and came to Freeport, Ill., where she was married in 1854 to Christoph Weseman. Ten years later they moved to their home in Malaka Township, this county, where they had continued to live ever since.

Mother Weseman was a splendid woman and had the love and respect of all her friends and neighbors. She was keen and thrifty and had the ability to make her efforts successful. To the union of Mr. and Mrs. Weseman there were twelve children born. Mrs. Henry Korf of Malaka, Mrs. Lizzie Dammann of Hubbard, Iowa, Mrs. Sophia Putzig of Hand, Mich., Mrs. Mary Griebeling and Mrs. Dena Carl of this city and Johanna, Emma and Louis, who are still at home, survive. Four are dead: Gustave, Mrs. Carrie Young, Chris and Herman.

The funeral was held from the home Sunday at 10 o’clock, her pastor taking for his text these words, which had been a favorite passage with the deceased: “I am going home, I am ready to be offered, I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” After the services, which were conducted by Rev. Frederick Rasche, interment was made in the cemetery near Horn. ~ Iowa State Democrat, Thursday, May 2, 1901
