Mrs. Harriet Morrison died last Friday evening at the home of her son, E. Morrison, in this city, at the advanced age of 86 years. She took cold and grip some weeks ago and was not able to throw off the effects.

Deceased was born in Duchess County, New York, September 15, 1814, and was a second cousin of General Sherman. In 1835 she was married to Henry S. Morrison. To this union there were nine children born and all survived their father, whose death occurred in 1854. The mother and children afterward sought a home in the west, going first to Wisconsin and later moving to Scott County, Iowa. They came to Jasper County in 1869 and bought a fine farm in Mariposa Township where they prospered and made a splendid home for themselves.

Mrs. Morrison had been a Christian from her early youth and the close of her long life was peaceful and happy. She anticipated with joy the time when she would leave these earthly scenes and be a rest at home. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church.

Her surviving children are: John, of Platteville, Wisconsin; Catherine Wallice of Springville, Pennsylvania; Maria, wife of T. H. D. Jacobs, of Newton; Ebenezer of Newton; Emma, wife of James M. Brown, and James G. both of Kellogg Township; and Henry S. of Newton. Her death occurred at the home of her son Ebenezer, with whom she has been staying for the past few months.

The funeral occurred Monday afternoon at the home of E. Morrison, Rev. Chambers having charge of the service, and was largely attended by friends who had so long known and loved the departed one.
