William Medill Hard was born near Chillicothe, Ohio, July 13, 1851, and died at his home in this city Sunday, Feb. 10, 1901.

Deceased came to Iowa 25 years ago and was married, Jan. 19, 1880, to Mary L. Harper. To their union was born seven children, five of whom survive. Mr. Hard had been sick for four months and had suffered greatly. He was a quiet, modest man, steady in his habits and reliable. He had for a number of years been employed as night watch in the feeder works and had the respect and confidence of all his fellow employees. A number of them acted as pallbearers and a lovely floral tribute on the casket testified to their esteem. The funeral occurred Wednesday morning at 10:30 in the M. E. Church, of which deceased was a member, Rev. Willits conducting the services. Two brothers, Daniel of Garden City, Kansas, and Lloyd of Chillicothe, Ohio, were present, as was a representative of the A. O. U. W. of Des Moines.
