Amilee B. Parsons

Amilee B. Parsons, 93, of Newton died on Friday, August 24, 2012, at Skiff Medical Center under the care of Skiff Hospice. A funeral service will be held at 2 P.M., Tuesday, August 28, 2012, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home. The family will greet friends from 1-2 P.M., Tuesday, at the funeral home. Memorials to the Jasper County Freedom Flight may be left at the funeral home.

Amilee, the daughter of Charles and Grace (Barbee) Cleverley, was born on February 23, 1919 in Collins, Iowa. She graduated from Zearing High School. Amilee was united in marriage with Cleo J. Parsons on September 30, 1939 in Marshalltown. They made their home in the Newton area. Amilee worked at People’s Natural Gas Company and later at Sears and Roebuck. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, and writing.

Those left to honor Amilee’s memory are her son, Leo (Phyllis) Parsons of Bentonville, Arkansas; daughter, Sharon L. (Larry) Fitzgerald of Sun Lakes, Arizona; her 6 grandchildren, Carol (Roy) Hansen, Randy (Kim) Townsend, Kirk Townsend, Laura (Curt) Guest, Patrick (Lynette) Fitzgerald, and Gregg Taylor; and 7 great-grandchildren, Megan Townsend, Tara Townsend, Haley Townsend, Graydon Guest, Wyatt Fitzgerald, Chelsey Rilatos, and Christian Taylor. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Cleo Parsons; son, Bryce Parsons; grandson, Christopher Parsons; 2 brothers, Frank and Melvin Cleverley; and sister, Betty Wright. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, August 27, 2012.
