John Paul Deaton, 68, of Mingo died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 24, at Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax. Burial will be held at Greencastle Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, at the funeral home. Condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, August 21, 2012.

John Paul Deaton, age 68 of Mingo, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 19, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Memorial services will be held on Friday, August 24, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax. Burial will be held at Greencastle Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 23, 2012, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the John Paul Deaton Memorial Fund and condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.

The son of Delbert and Mae (Boucher) Deaton, John was born on November 9, 1943, in Newton. John graduated from Mingo High School in 1962. He worked at John Deere in Ankeny for 30 + years, retiring in 1994. He served as the mayor of Mingo, was active in the Mingo Men's Club, enjoyed fishing, race horses, and his daily card games. John enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and frequently went to Buffalo to spend time with them.

Those left to honor him are his children; Paul (Jackie) Deaton of Colfax and Sherri (John) Deaton-Callahan of Orchard Park, New York; seven grandchildren, Johnna, Mack, Haley, Johnny, Gabriella, Brooke and Nick; and three great grandchildren, Zane, Jackson, and Drake. Also surviving are his three brothers, Delbert "Sonny" (Sharon) Deaton of Mingo, David Deaton of Baxter and Ronald "Moe" (Linda) Deaton also of Mingo. Preceding him in death were his parents, and three sisters, Betty, Kathy and Laverne. ~ The Coburn Funeral Home, Colfax, Iowa.
