Mildred Vander Hoek, 85, of Prairie City died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012, at Pella Regional Health Center.
A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 6, at the Prairie City Christian Reformed Church. Burial will follow at Waveland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 5, at Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City. The family will greet friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the Prairie City Christian Reformed Church or the Christian Opportunity Center in Pella. Mildred Vander Hoek, age 85 of Prairie City, died Wednesday, August 1, 2012, at Pella Regional Health Center. The daughter of Gerrit and Evelena (Van Ryswyk) Branderhorst, Mildred was born on March 24, 1927, near Prairie City. On November 21, 1951, she was united in marriage to William Vander Hoek. Mildred was a member at the Prairie City Christian Reformed Church, where she taught Sunday school and was active in the Ladies Aid. Mildred was a devoted farm wife always ready to pitch in with what ever needed to be done. She and William enjoyed their vegetable garden and her time with her family.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband, William at home; her children, Arlene Worden of McMinnville, Oregon, Gerald (Mary) Vander Hoek of Denver, Colorado, and Kathy (Dennis) Van Engen of Sioux Center, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Travis Worden, Natalia (Bill) Powers, Carrie (Jorge) Quintanilla, Jonathan Vander Hoek, Mandy (Carlos) Silva, Billee Van Engen and Lucas Van Engen; and five great grand children, Noah, Isaac, Lydia, Asher, and Olivia. Also surviving are her sisters, Esther (Bill) Wellington of Florida and Pearl (Riley) Van Zee of Newton; a brother, Marvin (Pauline) Branderhorst of Pella; two sisters-in-law, Jenny Branderhorst of Newton and Willa Branderhorst of Pella and a brother-in-law, Case Van Soelen of Sully. Preceding her in death were her parents, four sisters, Wilma Van Zee, Dorothy DeKoning, Leona Van Soelen and Maria Vos and three brothers, William and Gerrit Branderhorst and an infant brother. ~ The Coburn Funeral Home.
