Visitation: The family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at the funeral home.
Donna was born December 17, 1947 to Hilbert and Joy (Davis) Phipps in Newton, and was raised just outside of Lovilia. A graduate of Albia High School, class of 1966, Donna held several positions once her kids were school age, but her favorite and most profitable jobs were wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed sewing, baking, cooking, and loved spending time with her family and friends.She enjoyed spending time at and being involved in church. Reverend Wesley Lowery married Donna and Joe on July 24, 1966 at the EUB Church in Lovilia. She was a member of the Independent Bible Church of Bussey until moving to O’Fallon, MO in 1992. Donna was then a member of Hope Bible Church where she was reunited with Pastor Bruce R. Chulka, formerly the pastor in Bussey. In 2000, the opportunity came up to move back to Iowa and spend more time with her kids and grandkids. Once back in Newton, she was a member of Zoar Church that then became Cornerstone Bible Fellowship in Newton, and she served as the missions’ coordinator until shortly before her passing.
Donna is survived by her husband, Joe Keeton of Newton; her mother, Joy Phipps of Newton; three children: Mark and wife, Lisa Keeton of Albia, Brian and wife LaNita Keeton of Newton, and David and wife, Dana Keeton of Liberty, MO; 6 grandchildren: Deanna and Aaron, Jonah, and Tessa, Jaxon and Gannon; three brothers: Dick and wife, Noreen Phipps of Rapid City, SD, David and wife, Kathy Phipps of Hartford, CT, and Dennis of Springfield, IL; mother-in-law, Edith Blomgren of Lovilia; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kelly Jo on January 21, 1968, a stillborn son on October 15, 1968, and her father, Hilbert Phipps on August 13, 2003.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Skiff Hospice or in Donna’s name may be left at the church on the morning of the service or at the funeral home.
