Gene L. Meckley, 77, of Colfax died Friday, July 27, 2012, at Park Centre in Newton.
A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, at First Baptist Church in Colfax. Burial will follow at McKeever Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 31, at the church. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Gene L. Meckley, age 77 of Colfax, died Friday, July 27, 2012 at Park Centre in Newton. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 1, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Colfax. Burial will follow at McKeever Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the church. The family will greet friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to Alzheimer's Association and condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.The son of Clifford and Ann (Smith) Meckley, Gene was born on March 26, 1935 in Colfax. On May 25, 1956, he was united in marriage to Alice Gile in Colfax. Together they made their life on the farm. Gene also was a 4-H leader, served as President on the Colfax School Board. In his younger days, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and hunting mushrooms. During his later years he began driving the school bus and really enjoyed the time he spent with the children. Gene also would drop everything to spend time with his grandchildren or to go to their events.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Alice of Colfax; his three daughters, Kim (Gary) Murray of Flower Mound, Texas, Kristi (Brad) Hill of Colfax, and Kelli (Mike) Maher of Prairie City; and seven grandchildren, Jessica Lane, Brandon Hill, Brook Maher, Megan Murray, Brice Hill, Brady Maher and Breanna Maher. Also surviving are his twin sister, Joan Stiffler of La Porte City, Iowa, Susan Grove of Florida, Bob Meckley of Eagen, Minnesota, and Margaret Owens of Fairbanks, Iowa as well as many nieces nephews and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother, Raymond. ~ The Coburn Funeral Home, Colfax, Iowa.
