Newton, IowaVisitation: The family will greet friends from 12-1 P.M., Monday, January 16, 2012 at the funeral home.
Funeral Service: 1:00 P.M., Monday, January 16, 2012 at the funeral home.
Interment: Immediately following the funeral service on Monday, January 16, 2012 at Newton Union Cemetery.
Those left to honor Lucile's memory are her 4 daughters, Tania M. Wirt of Hockley, Texas, Loretta L. (Jeff) Johnson of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Roberta "Bobbe" (Byron) Allspach of Newton, and Bette Lu (Jim) Kling of Newton; 10 grandchildren, Vernon Wirt, Freddy Wirt, Andy Wirt, Roy Wirt, Amy Wirt, Andrea Pascale, Susan Jeffries, Mark Church, Eric Hawthorne, and Rachel Abel; her 20 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and her sister-in-law, Dorothy Failor of Newton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy Edwin and Nora Inez (Mendenhall) Failor; husband, C. Robert Church in October 2010; daughter, Martha Ellen Church; and her brother, Woodrow Failor.
Lucile had attended the Hope Ridge Country School prior to graduating from Newton High School in 1935. Lucile was a homemaker and had worked at Woolworths, Jack & Jill, Coast to Coast, and JC Penney. Lucile was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ. She was also a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ Missionary and the Friends Missionary group. Lucile was a past member of the Congregational United Church of Christ, north of Newton, and of the First Baptist Church. She was also a RSVP volunteer at the Senior Citizens Center. Lucile enjoyed writing poetry, shopping, gardening, and collecting. She had an eye for detail and was a very good seamstress, artist, and had done furniture upholstery and refinishing. Lucile also liked singing and telling stories.
