Visitation: The family will greet friends with a lunch following services on Thursday, January 05, 2012 at the church.

Funeral Service: 11:30 a.m., Thursday, January 05, 2012 at the First Presbyterian Church, 220 N. 2nd Ave. E. in Newton.

Interment: Immediately following the funeral service on Thursday, January 05, 2012 at the Newton Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton.

Those left to honor Leona's memory are her three granddaughters, Michelle (Robert) Elizer of Overland Park, Kansas, Nikki (Steve) Klein of Overland Park, Kansas, and Darci (Greg) Davis of Denver, Colorado; nine great-grandchildren, Savanna, Kolton, Noah, Tucker, Ciera, Lily, Jaxon, Olivia Mae, and Austin; her daughter-in-law, Karen Backus of Newton; and brother, Marvin Schippers of Pella. She was preceded in death by her parents, Adrian A. and Jennie (Bogaards) Schippers; husband, Darrell in 1998; and son, Larry in 2001; and brother, Willis.

Leona has lived in Newton since 1960.

Leona was an inspector in production for the Maytag Company for many years.

Leona enjoyed taking her granddaughters to horse riding lessons when they were younger, going to horse shows, gardening, baking, entertaining, traveling, shopping, fishing, sports, especially college basketball and the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Memorials to Skiff Hospice may be left at the church at the time of the services, they may also be left at the funeral home; or may be mailed to the funeral home, if mailing please add, Attn: De Bruyn family on the envelope. ~ Wallace Family Funeral Home Site.
