Death of Pioneer Mother

Mary J. Mershon, widow of the late Dr. E.H. Mershon, died at her home on North Mulbery street at 5:30 o'clock Tuesday morning, November 10 at the age of 85 years. Mother Mershon had been confined to her home for over two months--her dear life gradually wasting away under the weight of years.

She came with her husband to Jasper county in 1855 and for many years lived on their large farm north of Kellogg. Since Dr. Mershon's death she has occupied her commodious home in this city where she died. She is survived by three children--Mrs. Grant Munn of Marysville, Missouri, who has been here for some time caring for her, and the two sons, Warder, who resides at Cora, Wyoming, and Cyrus in this city. Cyrus left only a week ago on a business trip to Wyoming but he and his brother will both be here for the funeral, the arrangements for which will not be made until word is received from them. Mother Mershon was a devout christian and a member of the Disciple church from her girlhood.

Note:
