Newton (Iowa) Journal Wed. August 17, 1887

Died - the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Pickens, at their home, Monday, August 8, aged two months and one week. Appropriate services were held at their home Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. J. P. Brengle. The parents have the sympathy of all in the loss of their household treasure. But the Lord gave and the Lord hath taken away, and may they have grace to say, “Thy will be done.”

This lovely bud so young and fair, Called hence by early doom. Just came to show how sweet a flour, In Paradise could bloom.

Card of thanks - To the neighbors and friends who so kindly assisted us during the sickness and death of our darling babe, we wish to return our heartfelt thanks. -- Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Pickens
