Pioneer Newton Resident Dies

Mrs. Hattie Van Haveskerke had been Resident of County for 31 years

Mrs. Hattie Van Haveskerke wife of Prof. Andrew Van Haveskerke and well know pioneer resident of Newton and Jasper County died at 8 o’clock this morning at the Skiff Hospital where she had been patient since Monday night. Death was due to complications (illegible) to old age.

Mrs. Van Haveskerke is survived by her husband and by an adopted daughter, Mrs. Will Harrington, of Newton. Two other daughters, Annie and Bertha died many years ago. Mrs. Van Haveskerke was a member of the local Congregational Church and of the Eastern Star. She had been confined to her home for several years because of rheumatism.

She was born in Lancaster, Pa., May 20, 1845 and came west with her parents at the age of five. During the trip the father died and the mother came on to Iowa settling in Louisa County.

Some years after their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Van Haveskerke came to Jasper County where they have resided for the past 31 years.

Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 10:30 at the Morgan Funeral Home. Rev. G. L. Williams of the Congregational Church will officiate and members of the O. E. S. will take part in the service. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News Sat 27 June 1925.
