M. Van Cleave, 73, Dies Sunday in Marshalltown

Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon from the Morgan Funeral Home for Martin Thomas Van Cleave, 73, who died at his home west of Marshalltown at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, following a heart attack.

Mr. Van cleave was born Feb. 1, 1872, at Peoria, Iowa, and had spent the greater part of his life in Jasper County, recently moving to Marshall County.

The Rev. B. L. Howse of the Four Square Gospel Church, of which the deceased was a member, will be in charge of the services. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.

Survivors include the widow, Cornelia Zwank Van Cleave; and nine children, Cecil Van Cleave, Milton Van Cleave, Mrs. Ralph (Bessie) McGriff, Mrs. Ethel McElroy, all of Newton; Ray Van Cleave, Montezuma, Walter Van Cleave, Marshalltown, John Van cleave, Conrad, Clyde Van Cleave, Rock Island, Ill., Mrs. William (Inez) Jorgensen, Albion; also 28 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Fred Van Cleave of Briarsville, Minn.; Ralph Van Cleave, Newton, and one sister, Mrs. Bertha Swisher, New Sharon.

He was preceded in death by two daughters, Mrs. Roy (Cora) McGriff, and Mrs. Richard (Frances) Farrow, and an infant son, Wilbur. ~ Newspaper name unknown, 19 Mar 1948.
