Arlene E. Myers, 82, died Sunday, Oct. 16, 2011, at Skiff Hospice’s Monarch Wing in Newton.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 22, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, at the funeral home. Private family burial will be held at a later date. Memorials to donor’s choice or in Arlene’s name may be left at the funeral home.
Arlene, the daughter of Lloyd and Elsie (Koppin) Hutchinson, was born Dec. 27, 1928, in Kellogg, Iowa. She grew up in Kellogg and graduated from Kellogg High School in 1946. She was united in marriage with Paul W. Myers on May 1, 1948, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Arlene worked at the Jasper County Bank and then at Axtell Ford for more than 30 years. She was a charter member of St. Aidan’s Anglican Catholic Church in Des Moines.
She enjoyed painting ceramics, making crafts and doing word puzzles. She loved spending time with her grandkids and great-grandkids. Her favorite pastime was being “Mrs. Ringo Clown.”
She is survived by her daughter, Sandy (Gary) Damman of Altoona; three grandchildren, William Damman (Lisa) of Indianola, Eric Damman (Jennifer) of Ostego, Minn., and Jessica Damman (Jason) of Des Moines; seven great-grandchildren, Olivia, Emma, Rachel, James, Spencer, Kaitlynn and Samantha; her siblings, Lloyd (Vera) Hutchinson, Larry (Faye) Hutchinson and Marilyn (John) Schlotterback; her special child, James Myers (Karen) of Louisberg, Kan.; special grandchildren, Chris Myers of Louisberg, Kan., and Jesse Myers (Kalena) of Overland Park, Kan.; and her special great-grandchildren, Caleb and Ranan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 61 years and one day, Paul Myers; two sons, Joe Myers and Max Myers; sister, Doris Froah; and a brother in infancy.
