Retired Farmer Died Saturday; Resident of Kellogg Area 48 Years

Kellogg – Carl Lenz, 84, Kellogg retired farmer, died at 11 o’clock Saturday morning at the Skiff Memorial hospital in Newton. He had been in ill health for some time and had entered the hospital Thanksgiving evening.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon at the Kellogg Methodist church. Rev. W. W. Watson, pastor of the Methodist church, will officiate, assisted by Rev. A. W. Swanson, pastor of the Kellogg Christian church. Burial will be in Our Silent City cemetery at Kellogg.
Serving as pallbearers will be Leonard Jacobs, Bertrum Jacobs, Delbert Jacobs, John McKibbin, Homer Streeter and Robert Lenz. The flower committee includes Mrs. O. C. Norton, Mrs. Ernest Higby and Mrs. Marion Sullens. Mrs. Earl Trout will be soloist, accompanied by Mrs. Don Foster. Songs will be “Sweet Hour of Prayer” and “Nearer My God to Thee.”
Born Oct. 13, 1864, in Germany, Mr. Lenz came to the United States when he was 13 years old. He had been a resident of Kellogg and vicinity for the past 48 years. In 1900 he married Lena Exter in a ceremony at Newton.
He was a member of the Kellogg Methodist church and was active in church work.
Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Mrs. Fred Henning of Melbourne, Mrs. Charles Jacobs of Kellogg, Mrs. Laura Adair of Pamona, Cal., and Mrs. Myron Birchard of Houston, Tex.; three sons, Ernest Lenz of Pamona, Cal., Adolph Lenz of Santa Maria, Cal., and Louis Lenz of Kellogg; four brothers, Otto of Alva, Okla., Emo of Des Moines and Gus and Arthur of Kellogg; 11 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
