Mingo Man Is Missing

Mingo – Mrs. Loren Atkinson received a telegram from the government yesterday saying that her husband, Pfc. Loren E. Atkinson has been missing in action in Germany since Feb. 25. An infantryman, Atkinson was with the 104th “Timber Wolf” Division near Cologne, Germany at the time he was reported missing.
He entered the service in March 1944 and has been overseas since October 1944. His wife, the former Mollie A. Wagner of Valeria and small son, Lee William, 3, are making their home In Mingo. He is the son of Mrs. Edna Hennick of Maxwell.
A brother, S 1–c Virgil Atkinson is stationed with the coast guard somewhere in the South Pacific. Two other brothers are living in Michigan. He has two sisters, one Mrs. Alfred Eatwell of Newton.
Before entering the service, Pvt. Atkinson was employed as a section man on the railroad near Bondurant.

L. Atkinson Is Killed
Mingo – Further word was received here yesterday by Mrs. Mollie Atkinson, saying that her husband, Pfc. Loren E. Atkinson, who was reported missing in yesterday’s Daily News, had been killed in action in Germany on Feb. 25. Mrs. Atkinson received the word that he was missing Tuesday. Private Atkinson was a member of the 104th “Timber Wolf” Division, and was believed to have died during their attack on Cologne, Germany.
He had been overseas since October 1944, entering in March of the same year. His wife and small son, Lee William, 3, are living in Mingo. He is the son of Mrs. Edna Hennick of Maxwell.
In addition to his wife, son and mother, he is survived by three brothers, S1/c Virgil Atkinson, stationed with the Coast Guard, somewhere in the South Pacific, and two brothers in Michigan, and two sisters, including Mrs. Alfred Eatwell of Newton.
Prior to entering the service, Private Atkinson was employed by the railway company at Bondurant.
