Blake H. Wood, 15, of rural Colfax died on Wednesday, May 4, 2011, at his home after a battle with Ewing’s Sarcoma.
A private family celebration of life service will be held. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 9, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton.
Blake, the son of Darin and Mitzi (Maggard) Wood, was born on Jan. 25, 1996, in Des Moines. He was a lifelong resident of Jasper County, living in rural Colfax for the past 12 years. Blake was home schooled and was in his freshman year of high school. He enjoyed history, physics, NPR, caving, hiking, fishing, cattle, rockets, fireworks, archaeology, robotics and playing games and cards.
Those left to honor Blake’s memory are his parents, Darin and Mitzi Wood of rural Colfax; his siblings, Savannah Wood, Noah Wood and Lily Wood; grandparents, Max and Joyce Maggard and James and Kathy Wood, all of Colfax; and his many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Memorials in Blake’s name may be left at the funeral home.
