Helen Brafford, 84, of Colfax passed away at 9:50 p.m. Saturday, April 16, 2011, at Heritage Manor in Newton with her family by her side.

A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, at the Howard Street Christian Church with burial following at McKeever Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m. at Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the Howard Street Christian Church, and online condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com .

Helen Elizabeth Lloyd was born on June 8, 1926, in Colfax, the daughter of Harry and Mary (Mindham) Lloyd. She married David Harold Brafford, and together they had two children, Richard Lee Brafford and Judith Ann Brafford Van Loozen. She attended Colfax school and lived in Colfax all her life.

Helen was a loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, volunteering and dancing, and she especially loved visiting.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, David; daughter, Judi; mother and father; sisters, Ethel Rawlins and Mildred Gibson; brother, Jack Lloyd; and two nephews, Larry Gibson and Harry Gibson. Also preceding her in death was a special friend, Royal Junior Battles, who shared her love of dancing and her life in later years, caring for her and helping her remember when she started to forget.

She is survived by her son, Richard, and his wife, Crystal (Allsup) Brafford of Dallas, Texas; four grandchildren, Jason (and wife Nicole) Brafford of Austin, Texas, Desiree’ Brafford of Dallas, Texas, David Van Loozen of Springfield, Mo., and Keenan Bash of Shenandoah, Iowa.
Helen lived, laughed and loved life. We will surely miss her.
