James “Brian” Chamberlain, 41, died on Friday, April 8, 2011, at the Hospice of Jasper County Monarch Wing in Newton.
A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home. The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, at the funeral home. Memorials to Hospice of Jasper County may be left at the funeral home.
Brian was born on Dec. 6, 1969, in Knoxville to Gary and Linda (Garrett) Chamberlain. He was a graduate of Chariton High School in 1988. Brian served in the U.S. Army during Desert Storm from 1989 to 1993. He was a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division. He was one of the first troops on the ground as rapid deployment force in the Persian Gulf War in August of 1990. After returning he served in the Iowa Army National Guard from 1993 to 1994. After serving in the military he graduated with honors from Northwest Missouri State in 1998 with a degree in Actuarial Science.
Brian was united in marriage with Tracy Kuntz Taylor on Oct. 16, 2002, in Newton. He owned and operated Mid States Lawn Care in Newton for the last 10 years. Brian was a member of the Emerson Hough Chapter of the Izaak Walton League. He enjoyed riding his Harley, restoring classic cars and was very good at carpentry and woodworking.
Those left to honor Brian’s memory are his wife, Tracy Chamberlain of Newton; daughter, Allison Chamberlain of Newton; his parents, Linda and Eldon Reed of Chariton and Gary and Jan Chamberlain of Newton; three sisters, Brenda Kilgore of Mesa, Ariz., Terri Rumley of Pella and Rachel Flora of New York, N.Y.; his two brothers, Bill Reed of Chariton and Kristopher Flora of Baxter; and many more loving relatives and friends.
Brian was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Oran and Abbye Garrett; paternal grandparents, John and Angie Chamberlain; and the family dog, Tuffer.
(Interment: Immediately following the funeral service on Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at Newton Union Cemetery.)
