A note from A. K. Campbell this morning, tells of the death of his father-in-law, D. B. Evans, in Des Moines, last evening at 9 o’clock. Father Evans was well known to many of our older residents. He was in his 80th year, and retained his faculties, bright and clear to the last moment.

For over forty years he was a merchant in Ripley, Ohio, beginning at a time when he had to ride over the Allegheny mountains on horseback to buy his goods in Philadelphia, having them brought west in wagons to Pittsburg, and thence down the Ohio. His live has been blameless, and always for the good of his fellow men. He leaves a wife, of the same age, and three daughters and grandchildren, all living in Des Moines. His daughters are all well known to Newton people: Mrs. A. K. Campbell and Misses Alice and Lida Evans. ~ The Newton Record, Friday, May 8, 1896, Page 1, Column 5
