Mary J. (Lauck) Failor

Died, at her home in this city, o Wednesday, April 15th, at 11:30 a.m., Mrs. Mary Failor, wife of Mr. Andrew Failor, age 68 years, 3 months and 24 days. Mrs. Failor had long been a sufferer from heart disease and other complications, and her death had been expected for some time. She was a true and earnest Christian woman, and was ready and willing to go when the summons came.

Mary Jane Luack was born in Lisbon, Pennsylvania, December 22, 1827, and while she was yet an infant, her parents moved to Bucyrus, Ohio. Where her happy childhood and early womanhood were spent. When but 16 years of age she was confirmed and united with the Lutheran Church.

On the 24th day of July 1845, nearly 51 years ago, she was united in marriage with her now bereaved husband, Mr. Andrew Failor, at Bucyrus. Last year they were permitted to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary, surrounded by a large number of friends and relatives.

They came to Iowa in April 1855, and settled in Jasper County, near the College Farm, six mines north of Newton, where they lived until about twenty-seven years ago when they left the farm and moved into Newton. When the Evangelical Lutheran Church of this city was organized, Mrs. Failor was one of the charter members, and has continued one of its most devoted and faithful members, and her whole life is a perfect type of Christian womanhood. To them eight children were given, six of whom are living, five sons and one daughter: A. L. Failor, Grand Forks, North Dakota; Geo. A. Failor, of Grinnell; Mrs. F. M. Ely, of Fort Dodge; S. W. Failor, of Valeria; Chas. E., and Frank F. Failor, of this city. Mrs. George Parsons, the eldest daughter, died about twelve years ago, and one son died in infancy.

The funeral services occur at the Lutheran church at two o’clock this afternoon, conducted by Rev. J. C. Jacoby, assisted by Rev. C. C. Harrah. ~ The Newton (IA) Record, Friday, April 17, 1896, Page 1, Column 2
