Robert “Bob” DeBruyn, 79, of Newton passed away Sunday morning, March 13, 2011, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
A funeral service for Bob will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 17, at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton, which has been entrusted with the arrangements. A visitation time will be held one hour prior to the services and with the family at a fellowship following the services. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Bob’s name are being designated or to the Reasnor United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Hewitt Cemetery.
Robert DeBruyn, the son of Carl G. and Delia (Holmes) DeBruyn, was born May 23, 1931, near Galesburg, Iowa. He had attended rural country school.
On May 23, 1997, Bob was united in marriage with Betty J. DeMoss at the First Presbyterian Church in Newton. Bob was employed as an automobile mechanic and was a longtime resident of the Newton area. He devoted his life to his wife and family, and was a member of the Reasnor United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing and the outdoors.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Helen Quinn, Evelyn Wilson and Kathryne Icenbice; seven brothers, Clifford, Earl, Marvin, Ivan, Norman, Vernon “Pete” and Richard; and two siblings in infancy.
Those left to honor Bob’s memory include his wife Betty; a brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Rosie DeBruyn of Newton; several nieces and nephews; and his many friends.
