Charlotte Elliott, 86, of Newton, Iowa, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2011, at the Hospice of Jasper County Monarch Wing in Newton.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, at the First Presbyterian Church, 220 N. Second Ave E. in Newton, with Pastor Tiare Mathison officiating. The family will greet friends immediately following the memorial service with a coffee time in the fellowship hall at the church.
Memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association may be left at the church the day of the service. The Wallace Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Newton is handling arrangements.
The daughter of Ralph and Martha (Spratt) Parker, Charlotte was born May 28, 1924, in Oakland, Iowa. She received her bachelor of science degree in home economics from Iowa State University. On Aug. 16, 1952, she was united in marriage to Quintin K. Elliott in Oakland.
Charlotte grew up in Oakland, where her and Quintin were married. After they were married, they lived in Streetor, Ill., for three years before making their home in rural Newton for the last 49 years.
Charlotte was a farmwife and helped farm and raise four children. She retired when they moved to Park Centre in 1997.
Charlotte was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, Farm Bureau Women’s Committee, Mother’s Club, Bridge Club and the 4-H Club Committee. She also was involved in the BUMS Club, which was later known as the BUGS Club and helped every year with the elections.
Charlotte enjoyed sewing, gardening, canning and was a good cook. She and Quintin liked to travel and went on many trips overseas. They also welcomed many foreign exchange students into their home.
Charlotte is survived by two sons, Norman (Debbie) Elliott of Newton and Philip Elliott of Newton; two daughters, Cheryl Willemsen of Newton and Karen (Justin) Richmond of Shellknob, Mo.; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Quintin K. Elliott, in 2003; a grandson, Joseph William Brown; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Bryce and Corrine Parker and Dwight and Thelma Parker.
