Jacob “Jake” D. Moorman, 17, of Baxter died Sunday, Dec. 5, 2010 at Blank Children’s Hospital in Des Moines.
A funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 9, at the Baxter High School gym in Baxter with Dennis Thomas and Rollin Watters of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Baxter officiating. The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 8, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery in Baxter.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in Jake’s name. The memorials will be used to establish a scholarship through Dollars for Scholars at the Baxter High School.
The son of Kendall D. and Natalie A. (Finch) Moorman, Jake was born Nov. 9, 1993, in Des Moines, Iowa. Jake was a junior at Baxter High School and was attending Construction Trades at DMACC in Newton. He worked construction for Moorman Construction.
Jake was a member of the basketball and golf teams and FFA at Baxter High School. He loved doing wood working, deer hunting, fishing, golf, basketball, listening to all kinds of music, going to the Iowa Speedway, and he really enjoyed his black Camaro. Jake was a lifelong resident of Baxter.
Jake is survived by his parents, Kendall and Natalie Moorman of Baxter; a brother, Ben of Baxter; a special friend, Hannah Husske of Maxwell; his grandparents, Marlene Moorman of Baxter and Myron and Janice Finch of Baxter; his aunts and uncles, Brian (Karen) Finch of Baxter, Jason Finch of Des Moines, Heather McReynolds of Baxter, Kevin (Lori) Moorman of Kellogg, Kathie (Carlton) Saunders of Cedar Rapids, Kent (Debby) Moorman of Baxter and Karmen (Brian) Verhey of Modesto, Calif.; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Bennie Moorman.
