Carolyn S. “Carol” Fifer, 72, of Newton died Sunday, Aug. 8, 2010, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home with Pastor Adam Kling officiating. The family will greet friends from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery.
Memorials in Carol’s name may be left at the funeral home.
The daughter of Milton and Edythe (Watkins) VanCleave, Carol was born Dec. 31, 1937, in Newton, Iowa. Carol grew up in Newton and moved to Grafton, Wis., and later Saukville, Wis., in the 1960s. In February 1961, she was united in marriage to John Fifer in Newton.
In the late 1990s, Carol moved back to Newton. She was an assembly worker for 34 years at Tecumseh Products, retiring in 1997. Carol attended the First Assembly of God Church in Newton and was a longtime member of the First Church of Christ in Saukville, Wis. She enjoyed racing, football, and traveling.
Those left to honor Carol’s memory are her siblings, Thomas (Florence) VanCleave of Wisconsin, Melvin (Karen) VanCleave of Newton, Janet (William) Plumb of Newton, Carmletta (Ken) Tool of Reasnor, Dixie Racine of Wisconsin and Vicki (Virgil) Kling of Kellogg, and her many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Milton and Edythe (Watkins) VanCleave; her husband, John Fifer, in 1996; her brother-in-law, Mage Racine; two sisters, Kathleen and Barbara VanCleave; and a niece, Debbie Klug.
