Eldon L. Dexter, 80, of Newton died on Sunday, Aug. 8, 2010, at Hospice of Jasper County Monarch Wing in Newton.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11, at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1409 S. Eighth Ave. E. in Newton.

The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. Memorials to Hospice of Jasper County or to the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church may be left at the funeral home or at the church on the morning of the service.

Survivors include his daughter, Becky L. (Wayne) Kinney of Van Meter, and three grandchildren, Chelsea E. Dexter of Van Meter, Caitlyn C. Kinney of Van Meter and Patrick Kinney of Owasso, Okla.

Eldon L. Dexter was born September 19, 1929.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy C. and Georgia (Forbes) Dexter; wife, Verna in 2009; and two sisters.

Eldon was a retired over the road truck driver having worked for CRST for several years. He had also worked for other privately owned trucking companies. Eldon had also owned and operated Dexter’s Texaco in Newton for many years.

Eldon was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, and the Moose Lodge No. 923.
Eldon enjoyed camping, gardening and old country music.

Interment: at the Newton Union Cemetery in Newton.
