The daughter of Ora and Myrtis Robuck, Virginia was born on Nov. 2, 1922, in rural Knoxville. She graduated from Knoxville High School and received a teaching certificate from Central College. Virginia taught in rural Marion County Schools, Buckeye from 1940 to 1941, Fairview from 1941 to 1942 and Willow Grove from 1942 to 1943. After moving to Otley in 1948, she was a substitute teacher in the Otley Schools. On Oct. 25, 1942, she married Donald Kingrey. To this union two children were born, Larry (Treasa) Kingrey of LeGrand and Karla Jordan of Monroe. From 1948 to 1971 they made their home in Otley, where Virginia worked for the Otley Coop for many years. She then went to work for General Telephone, now Iowa Telecom. After retiring from there, she and Donald worked together in his construction company. In Aug. 1971, they moved to Monroe to a home she and Don had built together. She resided there until 2004, when she moved to Vriendschap Village in Pella. She lived there for three years and then moved to Newton Village until March of 2010, when failing health caused her to be moved to Griffin Nursing Center in Knoxville. She was a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church. She took great pride in her home and yard, making sure that everything was immaculate at all times. She enjoyed the many visits and helping hand from her granddaughter, Pam, and her family.
Surviving are Virginia’s two children, Larry and Karla; seven grandchildren, Pam (Mike) Vander Molen of Sully, Jeff Jordan of West Virginia, Chris (Scott) Buckley of LeGrand, Vic (Sylvia) Kingrey of California, Tracey (Scott) Baumgartner of Illinois, Shon (Jo) Kingrey of Wisconsin and Sarah (Shawn) Babbdrl of Marshalltown; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Phyllis Robuck and Jeanine DeJong of Knoxville; and two brothers, Jerry Robuck of Knoxville and Jack Robuck of Indianola. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Colleen Haug of Knoxville and Esther Breen of Pleasant Hill; a brother-in-law, Armond (Cork) Ravera of Knoxville; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald; two granddaughters; three sisters-in-law; and four brothers-in-law.
