Dorothy M. Berkey, 90, of Colfax died Friday July 16, 2010, in the Hospice of Jasper County Monarch Wing at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 20, 2010, at the United Methodist Church in Colfax with burial following at Colfax Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until service time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the United Methodist Church in Colfax or Hospice of Jasper County, and condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.
The daughter of Terrance J. and Ada Carrie (Hibbs) Crawford, Dorothy was born Jan. 23, 1920, in Mitchellville, Iowa. She graduated from Martinsdale High School in 1937. On Nov. 4, 1938, she was united in marriage to Kenneth Paul Berkey in Bethany, Mo.
Dorothy was a homemaker and helped on the family farm. She was a member of the Colfax First United Methodist Church, honorary member of the Ruth Circle, United Methodist Women, Poinsettia Club and P.E.O.
Those left to honor her memory are her two sons, Larry (Doris) Berkey of Kansas City, Mo., and Richard (Linda) Berkey of Newton; a daughter-in-law, Connie Berkey of Colfax; 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; and her special friend, Pat Evans of Colfax.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband in 2002; a son, Stephen Berkey; and brothers and sisters.
