Roy Rose Buried Here Friday

A. Roy Rose, a former resident of the Baxter community, passed away at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 18, at the home of his niece, Mrs. Glenn Flora, 908-20th street, Rock Island, Ill.

He had spent most of the time during the past year and a half in Rock Island with his relatives. He formerly resided in Newcastle, Wyoming, where he was owner and operator of a cafe for many years.

The body was taken to the Hodgson Funeral Home where services were held Friday morning at 10:00 o'clock with the Rev. Ernest J. Campbell, pastor of the First Methodist church of Rock Island, officiating. The body was then taken by J. H. Boyd of the Boyd Funeral Home to Baxter where the Rev. Robert W. Lewis, pastor of the Baxter Community Congregational Church, spoke a few words and offered a prayer. Bearers were Alfred Flora, Wilbur Flora, Charles Flora, Ray Flora, Raymond Holtsclaw and Clair Altemeier.

Mr. Rose was born in Blair, Nebraska, October 14, 1883, a son of Ander and Sarah Rose. He was reared and educated at Blair.

He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Viola Holmes of Des Moines, and Mrs. Ethel Logsdon of Rock Island, Ill.; a half-brother, Richard Rose of Newton; also by his niece, Mrs. Glenn Flora, and a nephew, Howard J. Logsdon of Rock Island. One brother, Howard, preceded him in death in 1912. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, May 26, 1948
