Laurette LuJean “Jean” Shives, 82, of Bethany, Okla., died April 17, 2010, in Bethany after a long battle with dementia. A graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 9, at Graham Cemetery in rural Mingo.
Jean, the only child of Clyde and Ethel Betts, was born July 21, 1927, in Coon Rapids, Iowa. She spent most of her younger years in the Coon Rapids area.
Jean was united in marriage with Teddy Shives on Jan. 7, 1948. Jean and Ted loved different places and lived several different places throughout their marriage. They moved from Iowa to northern California in 1950 and later moved to southern California. They then moved to Washington and lived there for several years before moving back to California in the mid-1970s. After retiring in 1990, they moved to Prescott Valley, Ariz., where they lived until 2001, when they moved to Oklahoma.
Those left to honor Jean’s memory include her husband, Teddy of Bethany, Okla.; two sons, Martin D. Shives of Vancouver, Wash., and Steven R. Shives of Rose Valley, Wash.; her daughter, Sandra K. Edgington of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Jean was preceded in death by her parents.
