J. A. “Jim” Owen Hartsoe, 77 of Newton, formerly of Gladbrook, Iowa, died Sunday, June 27, 2010 at the Hospice of Jasper County Monarch Wing, Newton from complications of lung cancer.
Memorial service Friday, July 2 at 1 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery Chapel, Marshalltown, Rev. Kim Wilson will be officiating.
Survivors include his daughters, Susan (Tracy) Gienger of Newton, Debra Wilson of Central City, Linda Keller (Mark Koder) of Norwalk and Margie Bates of Phoenix, Ariz. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son-in-law (Dorsey Wilson), daughter at birth, and two sisters in infancy.
J. A. Owen Hartsoe was born April 24, 1933 in Black Oak, Ark., the son of Alanzo and Mary (Webb) Hartsoe. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Army. On Jan. 6, 1956 he married Barbara A. Murty in Compton, Calif. She died Feb. 13, 2008. Jim owned and operated his own trucking business for many years.
