Kendal R. Kempenaar, 58, of Newton died Friday, June 25, 2010, at his home in Newton.
Funeral Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday July 1, 2010, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Heerema of The Way Church, in Newton presiding.
The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday June 30, 2010, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Leighton, Iowa.
Survivors include his wife Jane Kempenaar of Newton; son Adam (Sarah) Kempenaar of Chicago; four daugthers, Melissa (Shawn) Hoy of Portland, Ore., Allison (Jeremy) Arkenbout of Atlanta, Megan (Jared) Bazal of Newton and Alexis Kempenaar of Newton; seven grandchildren, Holden, Sophie and Quinn Kempenaar, Owen, Adam and Lauren Hoy and Nicholas Bazal; two sisters Karen (Joseph) Wadle of Knoxville and Sheryl (Ed) Kindred of Northome, Minnesota and his mother, Micki Stegall of Knoxville.

Kendal R. Kempenaar was born April 30, 1952.
Kendal was preceded in death by his father, Ralph B. Kempenaar.
He was a graduate of Oskaloosa High School in 1970 and CUI in 1974. He graduated from the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy in 1975. He served as a Police Officer with the Grinnell Police Department from 1974-1975. He then worked as a Supervisor in the Special Investigations Unit at Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance for over 5 years. In 1981, he began working at Allied Insurance/Nationwide Insurance as the Associate Director/Coordinator of the Special Investigations Unit. From 2004 to 2009, Kendal owned SIU Consulting, LLC, where he worked as a private fire and fraud investigator and performed loss control inspections. Since 2009, he had been working as a fire investigator in the SIU at G4S. Kendal had also been an adjunct instructor at Des Moines Area Community College since 1996 and had served as a Jasper County Auxiliary Deputy Sheriff.
Kendal was a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) and a member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, the Valedictorian of his class at the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy, a Certified Fire Investigator (CFI) IAAI, a Senior Claims Law Associate (SCLA), a former board member/editor with IASIU, a Fraud Claims Law Associate (FCLA), and a guest instructor for IAAI Chapters in MO, IA, and NE. He also was a Certified Insurance Fraud Investigator. Kendal was a member of the Kansas City Arson Task Force, the International Association of SIU's and was a former board member and editor of the Iowa Chapter of IAAI. He was also the founder and President of the IA-NE Chapter of IASIU.
